GENERAL INFORMACION ABOUT LA CARAVANA ARCOIRIS POR LA PAZ

ANTECEDENTES
La Caravana Arcoiris por la Paz is a non-profit intentional social project whose international volunteers work to supporting social development, founded in 1996 in Mexico, regisered in Spain in the year 2000 and recognized in the consulates of Madrid, Peru, Chile, Bolivia, Argentina, and Brasil. Through nine years of travel aboard our colorful buses in sixteen different latin american countries, La Caravana has mantained a firm compromise to colaborate with the sensibilization and education of millions of people in the subjects of environmental preservation and the values that we inherit from the indigenous cultures of the continent.

METODOLOGIA

To realize its labor, La Caravana Arcoiris por la Paz implements the following methodology:
Original artistic productions of theater, dance, music, and circus arts.
Production of audiovisuals, books, and video documentaries with educative ends.
Conferences, workshops, and specialized courses in subjects related to our mission.
Organization of international events, called Vision Counsels for Bioregional Action; live-in forums attended by representatives of indigenous communities, peace movements, environmental organizations, social and spiritual change networks, and artists from different parts of the world, all coming to share their experiences in ecological campsites that are designed by the Caravan using principals of permaculture, named Temporary Peace Villages. These peace villages have permited that between 800 and 1000 participants coming from the most diverse ethnic and cultural origins have had the opportunity to unite and exchange their experience in Mexico (1996), Venezuela (1997), Columbia (1999), Ecuador (2002), Peru (2003), Chile (2004-2005) and more recently in Chapada dos Veadeiros, Goias, Brazil, during the month of September in 2005.

INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT
Global: Gaia Trust, Global Ecovillage Network, Ecovillage Network of the Americas, Bioregional Congress of the North, WWF and others.
Local: Environmental Ministry of Columbia, Departament of Culture and Education of the USA, National Counsel of Culture and Art of Chile, Congress of the Republic of Venezuela, Subcomission of Indigenous Communities of the Cámara de Diputados of Venezuela, Ministry of Tourism of Peru, etc.
Bioregional: Universities, cultural and educative centers, NGOs, towns and municipalities of every city that we visit.

The path of La Caravana is and has been constantly covered by local and national media of and by special programs from international channels like HBO Ole, Infinito, and Univision, among others. We also produce our own web page www.lacaravana.org and video-documentaries.

TECHNICAL AND HUMAN RESOURCES
Infrastructura
Two buses converted to mobile homes, one 84 Chevrolet and an 81 Ford.
One self-constructed trailer equiped with a mobile kitchen and solar power system.
One trailer that carries a circus tent with a 500 people capacity.

Light and sound equipment, a trapeze, and theater curtains and costumes.
Projection equipment for audiovisuals: slides, transparencies, Infocus, VHS, DVD, TV monitor.
Computer equipment: 2 laptops, 2 scanners, external hard drive, CD burner, printer.
Photography and digital video equipment.
Image and data bank: Eight thousand slides, video library, and hundreds of magazine articles and letters of recognition from the institutions with which La Caravana has colaborated since its beginning.

Human Resources
Consists in an international group of 20 to 30 volunteers with distinct careers, professions and ages that lend their services to the organization as well as the planet, and that receive a unique training in order to convert themselves in the leaders and social workers of tomorrow.

CONCLUSION
With more that nine years of experience, La Caravana Arcoiris por la Paz is one of the most original social-cultural projects in existence in Latin America:
For its intentional nature and its capacity to arrive both to the most islated rural and indigenous communities and to urban cultural centers and universities of all levels.
For the versability of its labors in social, educative, artist realms.
For being a real world school of life for its members as well as its audiences.
For its capacity to create and strengthen the networks of change bridging political, ethnic, geographic, and social gaps.
For the attractiveness that it offers to the media and the ability to outreach with our messages with different media types.
For the human quality of its integrants, who give their all to service for the planet and humanity.
For being an example in daily life of international and intercultural coexistence and cooperation, of people with an ecumenic vision and a mission of high altruism, bases for the construction of a true planetary Peace Culture.
