Information for new volunteers DURING THE PROJECT “NEW AND OLD CULTURES OF BRAZIL”
Until now, most temporary volunteers read about us in our site, send their questionnaires and we approve them by consensus depending of availability of space and qualifications.
Some also join in the places and countries we visit, but all must agree to follow our previous agreements. The questionnaire is a very minimal screening, and a way to know a little about you, and by you reading our Manual it gives you a better understanding of what is, and what is not the Caravan.
Our experience in these last nine years tells us that this year, definitely, things are going to be very different. This is the first time we will commit to a long term agreement with an official institution, and therefore, volunteers that join us now should know beforehand a few things to make you take a better decision.
Our pace has been until now extremely slow. We spend long time in every base, travel for a few days and stop again, and the dynamics focus, in a very relaxed way, mostly in the experience of communal living, personal and collective process, with a secondary focus on the service to the local communities.
This year, our pace will be very intense, as we have to visit most of Brazil ’s states, nearly 50 communities, doing workshops, multicultural presentations, talks, showing audiovisuals and sharing with the local members of our hosts. Those visits won’t last longer than 10 days, mostly just one week each.
Due to this situation we are encouraging volunteers that have qualifications, either to do workshops (taking in account the difference of language), participating in the shows, or bringing in a good deal of experience in some of the areas that we will list after this message.
We will need also people who commit to at least three months in the Project, with one first “trial month,” after which we will decide (volunteers and crew together) if you want to continue or not with the Caravan for a longer time.
This year, volunteers will be requested to pay an entrance donation of 300 R$ (approximately $130 US dollars) for that first month period. This form of participation can last from 3 to 6 months, depending of your visas and travelling plans, availability, flight tickets, etc.
Therefore, we also will need people who has more initiative, self discipline, and hopefully some experience in communal and or nomadic living, ready to offer their best for a very special project, and to share a unique time with some very special people too.
So, those of you really interested in this new chapter of the Caravan’ s journey, please write us ASAP, fill your questionnaires, and extend yourself as much as you need telling us about your interests, feedback, visions and possible projects to develop in Brazil with us.
We thank you for contacting the Caravan and we hope you have a great journey, here or wherever the Great Mystery takes you.
